Motorists in Abu Dhabi can now avail self-refuel facility for their vehicles by using smart cards as Adnoc Distribution has launched first phase of its self-refueling service in the capital.
Minister of Energy Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazroei on Tuesday inaugurated the pilot phase of smart self-refueling project under which 380 petrol pumps will be offering the service that will change the consumer behaviour in coming months. The pilot project will run untilOctober 1 and 140 petrol pumps in Abu Dhabi are expected to offer self-refueling service by year-end.
The new service will help the motorists to refuel vehicle in fast and easy way by using a smart tag, Adnoc Plus cards, Emirates ID or paying cash at the service stations. The oil distribution company will continue to offer the option of paying in cash, bank credit and debit cards, in the pilot phase.
The smart tag will cost Dh250 while Adnoc Plus cards will be issued for Dh50 with no renewal fee.

How to use self-refueling service
To avail self-refueling service, customer will have to register for the Adnoc Wallet Account, which allow them to pay for their purchases in three different ways:
Smart tag, a smart chip installed at the fuel inlet of the vehicles' fuel tank and linked to the Adnoc Wallet account
Payment through the Adnoc Plus cards, which will be issued for Dh50 with no renewal fee
Using Emirates ID cards that are also linked to the Adnoc Wallet and activated for payments.
Adnoc Distribution will also continue to offer the option of paying in cash, bank credit and debit cards, in the pilot phase.
Adnoc director-general Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Adnoc Distribution's chief executive Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, senior management of the two companies and top executives in oil industry were also present at the launch of pilot phase of smart self-refueling project.
Al Dhaheri invited his customers to experience and benefit from the complete range of Adnoc Smart services. He asked them to register for the Adnoc Wallet Account, which allows customers to pay for their purchases in three different ways - via the smart tag, a smart chip installed at the fuel inlet of the vehicles' fuel tank and linked to the Adnoc Wallet account; the Adnoc Plus cards, or via their Emirates ID cards that are also linked to the Adnoc Wallet and activated for payments.
Over 10,000 motorists have joined Adnoc Distribution's smart self-refueling programme that was launched last month. However, 3,000 petrol consumers have activated their smart cards as of now that will allow them to refuel their automobiles from March 1.
"Based on the outcomes, we hope to expand the service -- after carrying out improvements as needed -- across our network of service stations in the emirate of Abu Dhabi," Al Dhaheri said.
Adnoc will closely monitor and evaluate the pilot phase of Adnoc Smart and the customer's actual experience throughout the eight-month period.
"The new service marks an important milestone in enhancing the operational capacity and efficiency of the Adnoc Distribution network," Al Dhaheri said.
Adnoc Distribution is incentivizing customers to subscribe to the Adnoc Wallet through offering complimentary smart tags to the first 5,000 customers opting to experience the service.
The company is also issuing Adnoc Plus cards for free to the first 5,000 customers. In addition, customers registering for the Adnoc Wallet can have their ID cards linked to their Adnoc Wallet accounts and activated for free.
