Amnesty seekers will now have an easy commute to the Immigration office in Al Aweer after the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) added a dedicated bus stop until the end of the 90-day amnesty period.
"To aid the hassle-free commute of people seeking amnesty, the RTA has introduced an additional stop to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRAFA) in Al Aweer on Route 11A starting August 1 until the end of the amnesty period (October 31)," the RTA said.
"The frequency of the bus is every hour, with the earliest bus commencing at 5:06am from Al Aweer Terminus," the RTA added.
Route 11 A currently begins at Al Aweer and ends at Gold Souq. It services various residential and commercial areas, including Khawaneej, Rashidiya Metro station, Airport Terminal 1 and Union Metro station to name a few.
Normal fare applies, according to the RTA.
Amnesty seekers should bring their Emirates IDs, passports and other necessary legal documents.
The amnesty initiative "Protect Yourself by Modifying Your Status" targets individuals who entered the UAE by legal means but have overstayed their visa or residency permits.
In an earlier press briefing, Major General Mohammad Al Marri, GDRFA-Dubai general director, said: "Amnesty is a gift from the UAE government to the people."
When asked about applicants from other emirates, Al Marri said that even though the Al Aweer centre is devoted to applicants residing in Dubai, they will not turn away those who come seeking their assistance.
The GDRFA director added that a health clinic will also be open to service those who come to the amnesty tent.
