The speeding violations dropped by 18 per cent in Dubai during the six months of this year, thanks to efforts of the police and use of advanced technology, said Colonel Jamal Al Banai, acting director of Dubai traffic department.
He added that the Dubai traffic department statistics showed that the total speeding violations in the first six months of 2017 stood at 1,260,437 as compared to 1,541,745 during the same period in 2016.
Al Banai said that the speeding violations of light vehicles came down by 19 per cent. During the first six months of last year, the police recorded 1,513,345 violations. This year, these dropped to 1,230,160 in the six-month period.
The heavy truck speeding violations also plunged by 14 per cent, with 14,449 violations recorded in the six months this year, compared to 16,750 in the same period in 2016.
He said that after implementation of the new traffic law, the police are expecting further drop in traffic violations.
Meanwhile, the fine for crossing the red signal has gone up from Dh800 to Dh1,000. The fine for unjustified parking has been raised from Dh500 to Dh1,000.
Jumping the red signal and parking violations are also seeing a change in black points - 12 and six respectively, compared to the previous 8 and 4. For crossing the red signal, the vehicle will also be confiscated for 30 days.
