The Department of Transport (DoT) on Sunday announced the commencement of Dh85 million Al Shahama main road (E10) widening project.
The project encompasses an addition of fifth lane in each direction between Al Shahama on Abu Dhabi-Dubai Highway and Sas Al Nakheel near the Abu Dhabi International Airport.
According to DoT, the project has been initiated in response to the growing demand for the transport infrastructure and as part of Abu Dhabi Surface Transport Master Plan (STMP).
“The Abu Dhabi-Al Shahama main road (E10) widening project will see the addition of a fifth lane in both directions to the already existing four-lane road. The Dh85 million 16-kilometre long project is expected to be complete by the fourth quarter of next year.
The road begins from Sas Al Nakheel to the border of Abu Dhabi International Airport Interchange (9 km) and then from Yas Island Interchange to Al Shahama (7km),” the department said in a statement. The project will help narrow the median approximately 3.5 metres in each way. The median will landscaped once the project is complete.
According to the DoT, Abu Dhabi-Al Shahama main road widening is one of the key projects undertaken to enhance the transport world-class infrastructure that will support the objectives of the socio-economic development emirate-wide by building integrated and sustainable road network that will address the existing and future needs of the public.
