In a new campaign on Twitter, the Abu Dhabi Police in cooperation with Saeed Company urged motorists to check their vehicle tyres regularly to avoid driving on damaged and expired ones to prevent crashes.
Motorists caught driving with damaged or worn-out tyres face a Dh500 fine, along with four black points and the vehicles are impounded for one week.
The police advised drivers to use quality tyres that conform to specifications and to ensure that they are always in good condition.
"Motorists should check the condition of tyres, before embarking on long journeys or driving on highways," the force said in a statement issued last year.
Police reports also showed that tyres unfit for use are the prime cause of car overturning.
