The Directorate of Traffic and Patrols at the Abu Dhabi Police will be launching new community-based initiatives during the 30th edition of the GCC Traffic Week in Abu Dhabi.
The event will take place from March 9 to 15, under the slogan ‘Our Goal is Your Safety’.
Brigadier Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic, assured that the directorate is forging ahead with implementing its strategy, which has “remarkably enhanced” traffic safety indicators in Abu Dhabi over the past few years. The strategy underlines the UAE leadership’s commitment to deliver its target of zero-fatality as per the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.
“The traffic awareness strategy launched by the directorate for the years 2011 to 2013 has contributed to raise traffic awareness, resulting in a decrease in traffic-related deaths,” Brigadier Al Harithi said.
He highlighted the efforts made by the directorate’s staff members and the different partners to achieve its vision to increase the levels of traffic safety.
Preparations for the GCC Traffic Week 2014 are currently underway across the country to better serve the main components of traffic safety strategy — the human element, the vehicle and the road condition. This, in turn, addresses the repercussions of road accidents, whether in human loss or damage of properties, and provides safe and sustainable traffic environment.
The directorate will soon be announcing its agenda with the launch of new initiatives. It will also be organising traffic education campaigns and lectures that target school and university students, as well as government and private entities.
Brigadier Al Harithi added: “The directorate will launch several traffic-themed exhibitions and contests. It will leverage its pages on the various social media networking sites to enhance communication with the different segments of society. The directorate will also focus on engaging community members in spreading traffic education, which is a core element to achieve a sustainable traffic safety, and an important pillar to enhancing drivers’ behaviors that constitute the main cause of traffic accidents.”
Lt-Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, stated that traffic accidents have become the major issue that threatens the security and safety of communities. “Traffic safety tops the directorate’s list of priorities. To this end, the directorate endeavors to launch traffic-related campaigns, programmes and activities regularly, and carries out field visits to many private and public institutions,” he said.
