The Traffic Chief Prosecutor Salah Bu Farroucha Al Felasi said that the 92 driving licences belonged to motorists, of different nationalities, who were also given jail terms and slapped fines for involvement in serious traffic offences.
Of those 92 accused, four defendants, who were responsible for causing the death of others, were given jail sentences ranging from three to six months.
Another 76 traffic offenders, who drove under the influence of alcohol, have had their driving licences suspended and have been sentenced to three or six months in jail.
“Only one motorist has had his driving licence suspended and has been jailed for three months for driving after using narcotics. Driving licences of 11 others were suspended for different periods of time for various traffic violations”.
Al Felasi pointed out that 100 driving licences were suspended in July 2012. “One of the defendants caused the death of someone else and his licence was suspended for six months.
While 68 others drove under the influence of alcohol and three other accused for driving after using narcotics. The remaining 28 licenses were suspended for other traffic offences.
The Traffic Chief Prosecutor stressed that there were constant instructions from the Dubai Attorney-General Eissam Issa Al Humaidan to the prosecutors to urge the Traffic Court to suspend the driving licences of serious traffic offenders.
He advised motorists to abide by the laws to avoid the legal penalties.
