The inspections have been launched to curb illegal modification of vehicles, following a decision issued by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who ordered to confiscate such vehicles and not to return them to the owners.
He also ordered the closure of all workshops found installing devices and modifying vehicles to alter the speed and noise of the cars.
Speaking to media persons during a Ramdan majlis organised at the Sharjah Islamic Bank Ramadan tent, Major General Mohammed Al Hudaidi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police stressed that these 60 modified vehicles will never be returned to their owners.
The police, in coordination with the Sharjah Municipality, have intensified inspection targeting the automobile workshops that modify the vehicles by installing devices that change the noise and increase the speed.
The action is being taken after many residents of Sharjah complained of motorists, especially youth, causing disturbance and posing risk to others by speeding and creating noise by illegally installing devices on their vehicles.
The number of the seized cars is not big, considering the size of the Sharjah city and the police will work hard until this dangerous practice is completely wiped out. A committee has been formed to curb the practice, he said, adding that it has planned inspection points in various parts of the city and has also prepared techniques to stop any such vehicle after confirming that it has been modified.
The top official stressed that the campaign will be continued in residential areas, internal roads and highways.
Al Hudaidi said that the family, school and the community have important roles to play in preventing the youth from falling in the web of self-destruction and delinquency.
He appealed to the emirate’s residents to cooperate with the police in order to create a safe environment and ensure the safety of residents.
