According to statistics released by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), taxis were the most used means of transport and recorded a ridership of 1,355,000, followed by buses with 1,092,000 in the second place, the Dubai Metro came third with 1,042,000 commuters while the number of those who used marine transport facilities accounted for 207,000.

RTA had chalked out a comprehensive plan for the traffic movement and public transport services during the Eid Al Fitr holidays aimed at meeting the needs of all segments of the society. The plan focused on crowded areas, such as The Dubai Mall where additional car parking was made available opposite the cinema in case the parking lots of the mall were full.

The plan also included a surveillance and control by traffic lights at the Dubai Festival City and on Al Rabat Street to ease the traffic flow, operating buses to shuttle passengers from the Dubai World Trade Centre to the Emirates Towers Station. But the 1,598 road accidents that occurred during the Eid holidays caused traffic jams and congestion in a number of streets, the RTA said in a Press release.
