Dubai — The Dubai Police have increased the number of drivers who will receive white points this year. As many as 1,500 drivers will be rewarded this year as compared to 1,000 last year and 700 in 2013. Also, one driver who does not commit any traffic violation in any emirate will be eligible to win a brand new car from the Dubai Police in addition to other prizes.

The General Department of Traffic made the announcement at a press conference on Sunday in the presence of Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police and Head of Federal Traffic Council.

Al Zafin said this year, there were 18,000 ideal drivers and 1,500 of them will be awarded. He added that the white point system will be generalised once the traffic system gets unified.

Al Zafin said the white point system launched three years ago is an encouragement for people to abide by the law.

The white point scheme

The scheme is aimed at encouraging well-behaved motorists who abide by the traffic laws by presenting them with gift vouchers and the opportunity to cancel their black points. Drivers who have accumulated 24 black points in one severe traffic violation, however, will not be allowed to acquire any white points for a year. The white points system collects the data of motorists and winners will be notified through SMSes.

People with valid driving licences issued from Dubai and those with one or more Dubai-registered vehicles in their names which they drive themselves will benefit from the system.

In order to be eligible, the driver should not have any violation registered in his name nor should he have any Salik fines, parking fines, or any traffic fines in any emirate, said Al Zafin.
