Soon, WhatsApp may introduce "disappearing messages" feature that would allow users to set messages to self-destruct.
According to WABetaInfo, who first discovered the feature, it is still under development and might not be available to everyone on the beta version.
However, if and when the new feature is rolled out, it will let users set messages to delete after either 5 seconds or an hour.
WABetaInfo added, that the new feature will be available in group chats only and will require users' consent to have every message sent in the chat deleted after a set period of time.
The "disappearing messages" feature first appeared in version 2.19.275 of the Android app and could be useful to anyone in case of sensitive information.
According to reports in The Verge, the feature has been used by the messaging app Telegram which allows sending self-destructing messages using the app's Secret Chats feature. Similarly, Gmail also added a similar feature last year.
