The theme of World Water Day 2021 is valuing water.

With an enormously multi-faceted value, water serves as our fuel for our households, food, culture, health, education, economics and the sustainability of our natural environment. Arguably, that is where the true value of our existence actually lies. If we overlook any of these values, we risk mismanaging this limited, irreplaceable resource.

I think the world is waking up after the year or so we've just had - we're beginning to realise the truer value of things. What's great to see is how from a government level, many are starting to take notice - and not just take notice, but begin to implement tangible strategies to safeguard us against a number of conceivable scenarios.

For example, long championed as one of the global leaders in innovation - only recently, the UAE announced its Vision 2040 plan - an urban development project unlike any other seen before. It's key objective? Sustainability.

Governments who are adopting these strategies are leading the humanitarian charge towards sustainable change. After all, we started this, so it's on us to fix it.

It's true that we're facing unprecedented demand for water - the coming years will be telling in how we pivot to meet that demand. At Xylem, we place water at the heart of everything we do, so we realise that water challenges like shortage of supply, unnecessary water loss and poor water quality can hinder the success of civilisation as a whole.

We provide solutions that enable them to monitor how water is distributed, coupled with actionable insights in real-time from all points in the water network. Through these solutions, we aim to empower our partners to make water security a possibility for us today, and for future generations to come.
