England opening batsman Alastair Cook was all praise for his captain Joe Root after the two batsmen put on a double-century stand on the opening day of the day/night Test against the West Indies in Birmingham.
Root hit his 13th Test century during the first day of the match. But it's the manner in which he accumulates his runs that has really impressed Cook.
The former England skipper also hailed Root as the best England batsman he has ever played with.
"He kind of makes it look quite easy. Frustratingly easy," Cook told reporters in the post-day press conference on Thursday.
"It's incredible he manages to score like he does. If he's not the best England player I've played with he's right up there."
"His game is phenomenal...He's just phenomenally consistent against world-class bowlers around the world," Cook added.
The 26-year-old Root has been remarkably consistent as he has shown the ability to score in both Test cricket and limited overs game. A batsman with a classical technique who is not afraid to play shots, Root is often hailed by pundits one of the best batsmen in world cricket now.
In fact, Root, Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson are often hailed as the four best batsmen in the world.
All of them are leading their respective international teams and they are enjoying this healthy rivalry.
Despite his unorthodox style, Australian captain Smith has become a phenomenal player in Test cricket. Williamson, many believe, will go down as the greatest New Zealand batsman of all time.
And pundits feel Kohli has what it takes to even break his legendary compatriot Sachin Tendulkar's records in one-day cricket.
In terms of Test batting average, Root (53.21) and Williamson (51.16) are marginally ahead of Kohli (49.55).
But as far as the battle for the top spot is concerned in Test cricket, it's Smith (61.05) who seems to be winning in style.
But we all know Kohli is the most dominant batsman of our time in limited-overs cricket. His record is formidable in Test cricket, but it's in one-day cricket that Kohli (54.68) has really distanced himself from the other three rivals - Root (49.47), Smith (44.26) and Williamson (46.98).
So who really is the best batsman across three formats in world cricket now?
That's our KT Sport poll today.
