Qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic golf tournament will be extended to June 2021 to accommodate the year-long delay caused by the coronavirus outbreak, the International Golf Federation (IGF) said on Wednesday.
For the men's Olympic Golf Ranking (OGR), points can now be accumulated through the period ending June 12, 2021 while the women's qualifying will run through June 28.
The field for both men and women will consist of 60 players.
The OGR is based on the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) for men and the Women's World Golf Rankings (WWGR).
The governing boards of the OWGR and WWGR determined in March that the rankings would be suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the 2020 Tokyo Games to be postponed until July 23-Aug. 8 next year.
A decision on the resumption of rankings has not yet been made.
