The new season of the Arabian Gulf League is likely to begin in September, the UAE Pro League confirmed on Tuesday.
The Pro League held a meeting with the UAE Football Association (UAEFA) on Sunday to discuss the new calendar and pre-approved the proposal.
The proposal has now been shared with the 14 clubs as well as the broadcaster and the final calendar will be announced soon after.
According to the proposal, the season will begin with the Arabian Gulf Cup on September 3 while the League is slated to begin on September 8 or 9.
"The plan is to start the season with the Arabian Gulf Cup on September 3. The League will begin either on September 8 or 9. The date of the first round of the League will be based on the AFC Champions League fixtures," a Pro League spokesperson told the Khaleej Times on Tuesday.
The fixtures list for the remaining AFC Champions League matches, which were postponed because of the pandemic, is expected to be approved before the end of this month.
The previous season of the AGL was abandoned last week following an emergency meeting between the UAEFA and the Pro League.
Meanwhile, AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, Dato Windsor John, general secretary of the AFC, Peer Niclas Naubert, Head of Global Marketing, Digital & Communications at Bundesliga, and a host of other personalities from the football world, will participate in a webinar hosted by the UAEFA, on Wednesday.
The webinar, which is titled 'Covid-19 and football, how to shape a new future,' is being organised by the UAEFA, in partnership with the UAE Pro League and the International Sports Convention (ISC).
The webinar, which is the first of its kind in the Middle East, will discuss the future of football beyond the coronavirus pandemic.
