Over thousand pupils from schools in the UAE are expected to visit the Meydan Equine Education Programme (MEEP) that has had its opening at the start of this horse racing season and would last for over next six months.
The Meydan Group-run MEEP is now in its fifth year and was launched as part of an initiative to educate young people about the history and heritage of horse racing in the UAE.
Each season, the students are taken the Dubai Racing Club yards including Grandstand Stables, and Oasis Stables, which are located inside the Meydan Racecourse, which will host the first race of the 2017-18 season on Thursday.
During the tour the youngsters have the opportunity to meet the equine stars of the track as well as trainers and racing personnel from each of the stables. They have the chance to ask questions about the care and training of racehorses as well.
They also visit the operational areas of the grandstand including the Parade Ring, Weighing Room and Jockeys' Dressing Room.
Once the tour is completed, the youngsters are given some refreshments and sent home with a baseball cap and T-shirt to remember their equine adventure by.
The program runs from September to May every season with a break during January, February and March to allow the yards to focus on the Dubai World Cup Carnival and the Dubai World Cup.
The Meydan Equine Education Programme also organises activities for students during the Dubai World Cup Carnival including a Fun Day, when all the participants of MEEP are invited back to Meydan Grandstand along with their families.
The day is usually packed with a host of activities designed for the young ones, including a talent and art competition, and a play area.
Breakfast With Champions, our behind-the-scenes stable tour for visitors has also opened its doors for the new season, they will run every Tuesday and Wednesday until March 21, 2018, with a break for World Cup week, following which the tours continue from April 2-8, 2018.
