UAE's leading and first English daily Khaleej Times has signed a strategic partnership with Javed Afridi-owned franchise Peshawar Zalmi, which won the 2017 Pakistan Super League (PSL) title after defeating Quetta Gladiators in Lahore in March last year.
Galadari Brothers' Mohammed Yahya Kazi Meeran welcomed Peshawar Zalmi's Chairman Javed Afridi at the newspaper's headquarters in Dubai on Wednesday.
Champions Peshawar Zalmi have kept alive the tradition of flying in the less privileged children to the UAE to watch live PSL action. The Peshawar-based franchise has brought in 13 cancer patients from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital in Lahore to watch the opener.
Highlighting the significance of this partnership, Afridi expressed his pleasure that having Khaleej Times on board will help the team improve their global branding.
Captained by West Indian cricketer Darren Samy, 2017 champions Peshawar Zalmi has been ranked as one of the biggest brands in PSL while Khaleej Times is the leading daily in the region. The team boast of some big-name players including Pakistani Hassan Ali and Wahab Riaz, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal of Bangladesh, Dwayne Smith of West Indies and Chris Jordan of England.
PSL starts today with defending champions Peshawar Zalmi taking on newcomers Multan Sultans at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with the final to be held on March 25.
