GCC NOCs pass resolution to protect equestrian, camel sports

Dubai - The new initiative was adopted after a report and paper on the sports arbitration was briefly presented, Thursday evening, by all the secretary generals of the GCC Olympic committees.

The executive office of the GCC National Olympic Councils passed a resolution to monitor and assist in the proper movement of horses and camels in major sporting events.
The new initiative was adopted after a report and paper on the sports arbitration was briefly presented, Thursday evening, by all the secretary generals of the GCC Olympic committees.
They discussed the movement of horses and camels for participating in GCC sports events in the light of the recommendation of the Organising Committee and Bahrain's suggestions with a view to developing a specific procedure to be reviewed by the presidents of the GCC NOCs before submission to the GCC Ministers of Environment and Agriculture.
To this effect, the 86th meeting of the presidents of GCC NOCs was hosted by the UAE and chaired by Prince Abdul Hakeem bin Musaa'ed.
The attendees also included advisor Mohammed Al Kamali, secretary generals - Obaid Zayed; Dr. Thani Abdul Rahman Al Kawari; Abdul Rahman Al Askar; and Taha Al Kashari. Ahmed Al Humaidi, director, Sports, General Secretariat, GCC Council was also present.
In his opening speech, Prince Abdul Hakeem praised the role of the UAE leadership in supporting sports activities at all levels; which contributed to the development of the GCC sports drive. The executive office adopted projects and initiatives capable of inspiring GCC youth.
The meeting reviewed the scheme of the GCC Sports Arbitration Centre submitted by Al Kamali, head of the study team.
The attendees reviewed comments made by the GCC NOCs and the General Secretariat in preparation for provisional endorsement before submission to the presidents of the GCC NOCs.
Discussions also covered means of boosting the GCC Community Sports programme by designating a sports day in all GCC countries to standardise a message of fraternity and cultural harmony.
The members also endorsed the date of the GCC Youth Games September 15-21, 2016 and commended the vision of Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President, UAE NOC, for enhancing the role of the GCC youth and optimising their talents for better shows in major events.
