The prep for the Dubai World Cup to be held at the Meydan Racecourse this Saturday, March 7, will take place, but without racegoers.
The Emirates Racing Authority (ERA) issued a statement saying that all racing action across four different racecourses this weekend, will be closed-door affairs.
"In accordance with public safety measures pertaining to the proliferation of COVID-19, Coronavirus Disease, the Emirates Racing Authority will contest race meetings at Al Ain Racecourse, Jebel Ali Racecourse (Friday), Meydan Racecourse (Saturday) and Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club (Sunday) without attendees," the ERA said.
"Though without spectators, all races will be contested and regulated in a standard fashion and results will be recorded in an official capacity. The horse connections, sponsors and media personnel will only be allowed to attend the races," the ERA added.
Races at the Al Ain Racecourse on Thursday, March 5, evening took place in front of empty stands.
Known as 'Super Saturday,' it is the traditional dress rehearsal ahead of the Dubai World Cup every year. This year marks the landmark 25th renewal of the Dubai World Cup and is scheduled for March 28.
UAEJJF Postpones All Sport Activities and Events
To support international efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19, the UAE Jiu Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) has also decided to postpone all remaining sport events and activities until further notice to support effective preventative and precautionary efforts.
This decision aligns with the Federation's commitment to embody the values of the sport of jiu-jitsu and provide an exceptional experience to all athletes, audience and partners. The Federation remains committed to growing the sport of jiu-jitsu and ensuring the health and safety of all athletes and stakeholders.
