When we're cooped up indoors too long, we crave a new look. The easiest way to achieve that is by changing up our hair. Maybe not something too crazy like blue hair or a buzz cut, but just a day with beachy waves, or a sleek wet look. It's nice to switch it up a little once in a while.
Usually, for a quick tame, we would bring out the flat iron to straighten the hair or even curl it. While heat hairstyling gets the job done quick, it's not always the healthiest option. Read on for some no heat, no tools method to hairstyling.
It begins in the shower
Using the right conditioner and shampoo is paramount to achieving the best hair. It can tame frizz and give your hair a smooth and glossy shine from the root to end. Don't rub your hair vigorously with a cotton tower as that will result in breakage.
Overnight braid
This age-old trick is one of the easiest ways to get loose waves without heat. Braid your hair at night and sleep with it in. When you wake up in the morning, all you have to do is undo the braids and apply a smoothing hair oil to tame any frizz.
Scrunch it up
If you're blessed with hair that has some texture, this is probably the most simple method. Spray some sea salt spray on damp hair, from halfway to the ends, and scrunch upwards. This technique will naturally create waves for that chic beach vibe.
Curly to straight
Once out of the shower, always use an ultra-absorbent cloth like a microfibre towel, which is soft on the hair and prevents breakage. If you have curly hair, brush it with a wide toothed comb until it dries. Finish with a hair oil to tame the strays. You won't achieve stick-straight hair, but it will definitely be more manageable than before.
Use Hair Rollers
Hair rollers can give the 'glamest' of heatless curls. You can purchase them at any department or grocery store. While your hair is damp, start rolling sections from the ends up and secure with a bobby pin. Let it dry for two to three hours or overnight. You>ll have luscious waves, which can be set with hairspray.
Go a-straw
Did you know you can use straws to achieve a variety of curl styles? Prep your hair by dampening it. Pick one small section of your hair at a time and gently twist onto a flexible straw. Roll the twisted hair section on the straw and tie it. Sleep on it overnight and voila! Come morning you will have clean, spiral curls.
