An earthquake has struck the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan and was strongly felt in northern Pakistan.
The US Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 5.2, while Pakistan's meteorological department said it was magnitude 5.9 with its epicenter in the Afghan mountain range.
The USGS said the Saturday night quake had a depth of 101 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt from tribal regions along the Afghan border in the north to the eastern city of Lahore and its surrounding areas in Punjab province. There were no immediate reports of damage.
Northern Pakistan is on earthquake fault line. In 2005 a major earthquake caused massive damages in northern Pakistan and in the Pakistani part of the disputed Kashmir region, killing more than 70,000 people
