A motorist assaulted a traffic police officer after frequenting a Dubai police station thrice for an unsolved accident case, a court has heard. The 27-year-old Egyptian driver allegedly pushed the traffic officer and insulted him in a fit of rage.
The accused had visited Al Qusais police station, claiming he had been frequenting the station for three days to solve his accident case.
When the 23-year-old police sergeant asked for his ID, the man got furious and repeated that he had been visiting the police station for three days with no action taken. "I asked him to remain calm because there were other clients at the station," the sergeant had told prosecutors. However, the man allegedly went on to insult the officer.
The sergeant got angry and stood to leave the office to tell his senior what had happened. As the defendant was about to leave, the sergeant requested him to remain seated. He refused and pushed the officer several times. As the officer tried to hold the motorist's arms, the latter assaulted him, causing him bruises and red marks.
A verdict will be pronounced on January 21.
