The Sharjah Police busted a gang of five Asian men involved in stealing copper cables from under-construction sites.
Acting on a number of complaints at the Kalba Police Station, a team was formed to investigate the case and nab the culprits.
During the probe, the police found that the gang used the same modus operandi to carry out the thefts in various parts of the city.
After an intensified investigation, the police were able to identify the thieves and raided their hideout. They discovered that the five men rented a car from a rental company in another emirate to execute the crimes. The team arrested all the gang members - who were living in the country illegally.
During interrogation, the Asians confessed to their crimes. The thieves told the police that they stole copper cables and cut it using a tool which they bought from a scrap company. Following their confession, the five men were referred to the public prosecution.
The police urged companies and individuals to protect their properties by storing them in a safe place so such thefts are prevented.
