The Al Dhaid Municipality authorities have seized an unauthorised factory that manufactures animal feed using expired ingredients.
The factory is located in a farm on the Dhaid-Weshah road and also doubles up as an accommodation for workers.
Sharjah Police conducted a raid on the premises and four workers of Asian origin were held, including two who were found to be staying illegally in the country as their work permits had lapsed.
Salim Saeed Al Tunaiji, the head of operations at Al Dhaid Municipality, told Khaleej Times that the feed was unfit for animals’ consumption.
The raid comes in the wake of the directives of the Executive Council of Sharjah because such malpractices are harmful for public health and safety.
The inspectors have seized the following items during the raid: a sewing machine for packing bags, a 200-kilogram (kg) scale, 185 bags containing 25 kg of cattle feed and 45 bags of 25 kg horse feed each, respectively, 32 cartons of dried fig, 248 sacks of wheat weighing 24 kg each, 33 sacks of lentils containing 40 kg each, 225 sacks of lentil peels weighing 25 kg each, and 45 sacks of beans weighing 30 kg each.
Packing bags, empty carton boxes and a fodder-laden vehicle was also seized.
Al Tunaiji said efforts were underway to eradicate all illegal activities and violations within the civic body’s jurisdictions.
An official from Al Dhaid police station echoed Al Tunaiji. The farms in the emirate are under scrutiny and strict action would be taken against the offenders, he added
