An African visitor lost his appeal and will be jailed for seven years after attempting to smuggle over 1kg of crystal meth in his stomach.
The 40-year-old Nigerian visitor will also pay a Dh50,000 fine for smuggling the drugs to sell inside the country. He was caught at the Dubai International Airport in July.
His nervous and tense attitude alerted a customs inspector. "He was nervous and sweating. He couldn't even speak when I asked him a question," the Emirati inspector told in court.
An X-ray of his stomach revealed suspicious objects in his stomach. The visitor was then referred to the anti-narcotics department before being sent to the hospital where 63 capsules were taken out of his stomach. The police found 1.07kg of crystal meth inside the capsules.
The man had admitted to the prosecutors that he was to be paid $2,000 for carrying out the smuggling.
He will be deported after serving his jail term.
