President Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan has bestowed his country's 'Jamal al-Din al-Afghani Medal' on the family of the nation's martyr, Juma Mohammed Abdullah Al Kaabi, the former Ambassador of the UAE to Afghanistan, who lost his life whilst on a humanitarian mission, as a result of a terrorist attack in Kandahar in January 2017.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Executive Director of the Martyrs' Families' Affairs Office of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, was present during the meeting between the Afghan President and the martyr's family, which was held at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.

Referring to the medal bestowed on Al Kaabi's family, President Ghani said that this is not only a tribute to the humanitarian martyr Juma Al Kaabi, but is also a tribute to the UAE leadership, government and people for their pioneering role, and efforts to support Afghanistan. He went on to note that Al Kaabi played a prominent and honourable role as the UAE Ambassador to continue the country's humanitarian giving principles.
President Ghani, who is in the UAE on an official visit, said that the late ambassador and his companions were messengers of peace, tolerance and love, who vowed to spread the noble values of the UAE throughout Afghanistan.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoun praised the Afghan President's gesture, reaffirming that the UAE will continue its humanitarian missions across Afghanistan, with the aim to restore peace, security and stability to the country.
The late Ambassador Juma Al Kaabi succumbed to his injuries on February 15, 2017 following a terrorist attack in Kandahar in January 2017. The blast, which struck the provincial governor's office during a visit by the UAE delegation who were attending the opening of an orphanage, killed at least eleven people, including five Emirati diplomats, and wounded 17 others.
