Quetta Gladiators coach Moin Khan said that they came up short in the bowling and fielding departments against the Lahore Qalandars but added that they will look to make amends in their next game.
The Quetta Gladiators were undone by an epic knock from Lahore Qalandars opener Fakhar Zaman and went on to lose by 17 runs in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
It was the Quetta Gladiators' fourth defeat in nine matches, while the Lahore Qalandars won their third game in nine fixtures. Moin Khan felt that the stiff target of 187 was within reach but they didn't have any big partnerships nor wickets in hand at the fag end.
"We didn't take it easy at all. Our fielding was not up to the mark," said Moin Khan.
"We dropped Fakhar Zaman and thereafter, he batted really well. And you have to give credit to him for the innings that he played. But still, it was a gettable total and we were playing with four foreign batsmen. So, we felt we could chase it down. Unfortunately, we didn't have a big partnership due to which, in the end, we lost the game," added the former Pakistan cricketer.
Moin said that the surface was good to bat on and felt it was good T20 game irrespective of the result. "The pitch was good. They made a good total which meant that the pitch was made for batting. It was entertaining cricket and what more could one ask for," he said.
Moin also observed that although momentum was important, the format is such that things could change quickly.
"Of course, momentum is very important because it is the shortest version of the game. But I feel it has happened with all the teams because the T20 format is such. It is difficult to maintain the momentum. Also, we didn't bowl well, the bowling was a bit off track and it didn't go according to plan. We bowled at the opponents strengths and that made a difference. The teams who have made the most mistakes, their momentum has been broken but I'm still hopeful that we will regain the momentum in our next match," he said.
