The UAE has provided Dh230 million worth of humanitarian aid in its efforts to alleviate the suffering of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, the UAE Ambassador to Lebanon stated recently.
The country has been providing assistance to the Syrian refugees in Lebanon under a strategic humanitarian plan in implementation of the directives of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011.
Hamad Saeed Sultan Al Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Lebanon, said, " The UAE government, its humanitarian institutions and organisations through direct initiatives and its offices have continued their support for the displaced Syrians in Lebanon."
He also mentioned that total aid provided by the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment, Al Maktoum Foundation, Dubai Care, International Humanitarian City, Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Foundation stood at Dh80 million.
These are in addition to contributions from individuals and philanthropists, Al Shamsi said.
He also pointed out that Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has provided humanitarian aid worth Dh100 million.
The Emirates Red Crescent contributed around Dh50 million, he added.
Al Shamsi said the relief assistance included medical treatment, provision of blankets, mattresses, dates and food packages, drinking water and food supplements for children.
These are in addition to seasonal projects which included Iftar and Eid gifts, clothes and sacrificial meat.
He pointed out that the UAE Embassy in Beirut purchases goods from the local markets to support economy in Lebanon. - Wam
