Shehab crashes out of Asian Snooker Championship

Mohamed Shehab of the UAE bowed out of the 23-nation 2012 Asian Snooker Championship in Doha after losing his last 16 stage encounter with on-song Aditya Mehta of India 4-0 on Thursday night.

It was one of those days when the Lady Luck had turned her back on the top ranked cueist Shehab.

And it wasn’t was a tale of what he did wrong, but rather what went wrong after Shehab had done the things the right way.

In the crucial third frame, when Shehab was on the break when he potted a blue in a spectacular manner only to see the cue ball kick the black and force it into the corner pocket for the UAE player to not only end his run but also concede seven penalty points.

Later in the same frame, a perfect safety led to an in-off to sum up the story of Shehab’s last 16 round match in which he suffered time and again from strokes of bad luck all through the match. However, it wasn’t Shehab alone to suffer a setback on Thursday night.

Former world amateur champion and overwhelming pre-torunament favourite Thepchaiya Un-nooh was sent packing by unsung Chinese Rouzi Maimaiti 4-2.

Also suffering a shock 4-0 hammering was the in-form Rais Senzahi of Afghanistan who was failed to match the wits of compatriot Saleh Mohammad.

Another title contender to crash out at the last 16 stage was Kamal Chawla of India who was defeated 4-1 by the reigning world amateur champion Hossein Vafaei of Iran.
