Winning the toss, SIS elected to bat first and registered a decent total of 132 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Opener Shrikant Bhavani continued his rich form scoring 27 off 37 balls to give a strong start to his side.
His departure caused a collapse but Dhrumil Gandhi stepped up to the plate as he was unbeaten on 32 off 42 balls. Dhrumil’s innings was instrumental in Sharjah Indian School reaching a defendable total.
In reply, St. Mary’s got off to a good start from the openers, but Renaldi was run out on 15 off 17. Then Nelukshan Desilva went on to stabilise the St. Mary’s innings scoring 30 off 43 balls. His wicket was very crucial as St. Mary’s never managed to hold on to the upper hand they had in the match after his dismissal. Shrikant Bhavani came back to haunt them with the ball as well as he picked up two wickets for 14 runs and SIS quickie Satish took two wickets for 21 runs.
Eventually, St. Mary’s fell short of 32 runs to interestingly poise the standings in the Pool B. Sharjah Indian School and Indian High School Dubai are tied at 6 points each and St Mary’s are on 3 points.
The next match between Indian High School Dubai and St Marys will decide the semi-finalist from Pool B. Maxway Player of the match was awarded to Shrikant Bhavani for his all-round performance.
In another match, Dubai Modern High School continued their destructive form as they recorded their third consecutive victory to set up a semi-final date against Ibn Seena School. Dubai Modern High School beat Winchester School by 106 runs in the last game of Pool A in the Maxtalent Global Vision Cup.
Batting first, Dubai Modern stuttered a little as openers Kartik Dudeja and last match’s player of the match Anjaneya both were run out cheaply. Then came the Shorye Chopra and Varun Totadari show and it just took the game away from Winchister School.
Winchister have to blame themselves as they dropped 7 catches gifted by Shorye Chopra, who went on to score an unbeaten 120 off just 55 balls. Varun Totadari’s 59 off 27 balls seemed small in front of Shorye’s bludgeoning innings but its importance cannot be undermined.
In reply, Winchister boys did put up a fight but the 268-run target set by Dubai Modern was too big a mountain to climb. Southpaw Aaron scored 28 off 26 balls and Saud made 21 off 28 balls as their partnership was frustrating DMHS bowlers.
Aaron departed after a rash shot and the match was back in the control of DMHS. Ranjith’s late surge of 31 not out off 17 balls was not enough as DMHS restricted Winchister for 161-8. Varun Totadari picked up 4 wickets for 21 runs and Deepak Phulwani was responsible for 2 wickets for 16 runs. Shorye Chopra was adjudged the player of the match.
Sharjah Indian defeated St Matys Catholic by 32 runs. Sharjah Indian: 132-6 (Dhrumil Gandhi 32 n.o, Shrikant Bhavani 27, Taimoor 1 wicket for 24, Nelukshan 1 wicket for 16, Nathan 1 wicket for 29) vs St.Marys Catholic 100 all out (Nelukshan Desilva 30, Renaldi 15, Shrikant Bhavani 2 wickets for 14 runs, Satish 2 wickets for 21 runs).
Player of the match: Shrikant Bhavani.
Dubai Modern defeated Winchester by 106 runs. Dubai Modern: 267 – 4 (Shorye Chopra 120 n.o, Varun Totadari 59, Winchester School: 161-8 (Rajith 31 n.o, Aaron 28, Saud 21, Varun Totadari 4 wickets for 21 runs, Deepak 2 wickets for 16 runs).
Player of the match: Shorye Chopra.
