Jotun Paints champions

DUBAI — A superb all-round performance by Azhar Nasir saw Jotun Paints clinch the DCC Emerging League title with an emphatic 8-wicket triumph against ECMIT at 7he Sevens cricket ground.

Nasir first bowled well to bag two wickets to help restrict ECMIT to 181 runs in 20 overs and then rattled off a swashbuckling knock of 65 runs taking only 29 balls to steer his team to a facile win, a media release from the organisers, the Dubai Cricket Council, said.

He slammed six towering sixes in his match winning essay and also had five boundaries in his rapid fire knock which set up the win for Jotun Paints in 15.4 overs.

ECMIT batted first and ran up a challenging score of 181 runs as most of their batsmen were amongst the runs. Opener Sujit Salian scored a brisk 42 runs with a six and two fours while Rohit Behal just missed his half ton making 49 runs in 37 balls with six boundaries.

Saqib Khan 27, Leon Carlo 26 with two sixes and Raj Mansukhani with 24 runs were the other batsmen to come up with important contributions.

In reply, Jotun paints openers Bilal Murtuza and Azhar Nasir raced off to a rollicking start with 71 runs in the first five overs with both batsmen flaying the ECMIT bowlers.

Bilal Murtuza top scored for his team making a blistering 74 runs in 34 balls hitting four sixes and nine boundaries before retiring and along with Azhar who made 65 runs laid the foundation for Jotun’s win.

Nithin then ensured the win for Jotun with a knock of 26 runs to see his team win by eight wickets to take the DCC Emerging League championship title.
