Admaja has no answer to veteran Malaysian’s brilliance

Dubai — Malaysia’s former world top three and All-England champion Mohammad Hafiz bin Hashim, and India’s former world quarterfinalist Anup Sridhar, cruised to comfortable wins in the super league stage of the India Club 38th Global Hawk Imaging & Diagnostics LLC UAE Open Badminton Tournament.

In the late night fixtures on Tuesday in round two, the duo kept their win-loss record to 2-0 with clear cut verdicts over their Indonesian and Bahraini opponents.

Mohammad Hafiz bin Hashim defeated Imam Adi Kusuma Admaja 21-16, 21-7 in the first of the day’s matches while Sridhar put aside the challenge of Shuttle Time Dubai’s Bahrain national champion Jaffer Ebrahim 21-11, 21-9.

Indonesian Admaja, the ‘open’ category winner of the tournament during the weekend, could not stand up to the quick movements of the veteran Malaysian.

Also keeping a 2-0 win-loss standing was Dubai-based youngster Mohammed Munawar who brushed aside the mid sets resistance put up by Malaysia’s Zairul Hafiz bin Zainudin 21-14, 21-14.

India number 12 and Haryana champion, Ketan Chahal defeated India rated Siddharth Thakur 21-13, 10-21, 21-13 to bring his record to one-win-one-loss after losing in the opening round on Sunday night. In the men’s doubles super league, Indonesians Dea Adi Rangga and Kornelius Mujiono, both coaches here, shocked the seasoned former world rated Hafizs 21-15, 21-17.
