The semi-finals and championship game will be played on Friday the 22nd and Saturday the 23rd of February respectively at the international class Al Wasl Sports Club.
In the first semi-final GWA meet Emirates International School (EIS) at 3pm. Lycee Georges Pompidou (LGP) take on UAS at 4:15pm the same evening on Friday. The Grand Final on Saturday 23rd Feb is scheduled for a 1:45pm tipoff at the same venue.
NIMS started the game with a flurry of counterattacks, to jump out to a 17–6 lead to end the first quarter. After shaking off some pre-game jitters, GWA finally settled into their offence, an organisers’ analysis sheet from the official table indicated.
Kevin Menkhorst administered an offensive clinic, scoring 10 of his game-high 23 points in the second quarter, while taking GWA to a 27–21 to end the first half.
NIMS only managed to score 4 points in the second quarter, courtesy of Sarhan Mohammed, who was also NIMS’s only bright spot, finishing the game with 19 points.
GWA was simply the better team, as they mastered the game’s tempo, ultimately closing out NIMS-S.
In the last quarter-final, ISC-S played their best basketball of the competition, with Samay Ramchandani in stellar form.
At the end of every quarter, UAS would pressure the opposition and claw back into the game only for ISC-S to jump back in front at the start of the next.
ISC-S maintained their narrow lead without fully shaking off their opponent and in the final quarter, UAS star player, Osama El Nady stepped up and led his team by scoring 12 straight points while grabbing 5 decisive offensive rebounds.
ISC-S had no answer for El Nady’s powerful inside game as he finished with 23 points and 17 rebounds.
