69 of the nation's best spellers will gather at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel's Meyana Auditorium on Saturday for the 4th edition of the Danube Spelling Bee Championship.
The competition's finalists were whittled down from 696 semi-finalists, who in turn were drawn from 2,000 participants from across the UAE.The champion will be awarded a AED 25,000 prize, plus an all-expenses paid trip to Washington DC. The first runner-up will win AED 15,000 and the second runner-up will win AED 10,000.
Additionally, zone champions will be awarded with AED 7,500 and grade winners will get AED 2,500. Other prizes include Emax trophies, medals and certificates.The event will be hosted by Kavya Shivashankar, the 2009 US Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion, who has been judging spelling bees and conducting workshops across the United States for the last several years.
