The venue for the Arabian Gulf Super Cup match between Al Nasr and Al Ain on Saturday, August 15 has been switched to accommodate more supporters inside the hosting stadium.
The season's traditional curtain-raiser between the Arabian Gulf League (AGL) champions (Al Ain) and President's Cup holders (Al Nasr) had initially been earmarked for Bani Yas Stadium, which has a 9,047 capacity, later this month.
However, event organisers announced on Sunday that the game will be played at Al Jazira's 42,000-seater Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium instead, thereby giving almost four times as many fans the chance to attend the fixture.
"The Pro League Committee has decided to move the Arabian Gulf Super Cup match between Al Ain and Al Nasr from Bani Yas Stadium to Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium - the home ground of Al Jazira," a statement on the official AGL website read yesterday morning.
"The committee's decision to move the match to Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium will provide the opportunity for the largest number of fans to attend the inaugural match of the new season between Arabian Gulf League champions Al Ain and President's Cup winners Al Nasr from the 2014/2015 season."
Al Ahli claimed the Arabian Gulf Super Cup in the previous campaign with a 1-0 victory over The Boss back in March, when centre-back Salmeen Khamis' late header proved the difference between the two teams.
That oft-postponed outing was also staged at Jazira's Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium.
