Ali Mabkhout's goal guided Al Jazira to a 1-0 win over Al Dhafra en route to moving to the second place in the Arabian Gulf League match at Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Stadium on Tuesday.
The game started with a bang as Al Jazira opened the scoring just six minutes into the game, when Ali Mabkhout converted Khalfan Mubarak's in-swinging corner kick past Khalid Al Senani, according to AGL website.
Around the 30-minute mark, the Western Knights responded when Suhail Al Mansoori found Pedro with an accurate cross, however, the striker's header was denied by Ali Khaseif.
Al Dhafra continued to push for the equaliser and seven minutes after the restart, Amran Al Jassasi went past Al Jazira's defender and unleashed a powerful strike that was saved by Khaseif.
In another match, Suhail Al Noobi and Sultan Al Shamsi both netted a brace as Bani Yas thrashed Ajman 4-1 at Rashid bin Saeed Stadium.
Bani Yas got off to a quick start as they went 1-0 infront in the 14th minute through Suhail Al Noobi. The No. 18 finished the ball from a close range after a poor clearance from Ajman's defence. Al Noobi was once again at heart of attack for the Sky Blues and in the 24th minute he received the ball up the left flank and squared it towards Sultan Al Shamsi, whose right footed strike nestled into the top corner.
Al Noobi completed his brace just three minutes later. Ahmed Abunamous released the winger with a through pass, that he controlled brilliantly and drilled the ball into the bottom corner.
Ajman were awarded a penalty kick in the 52nd minute after Bader handled the ball inside the box. Vander Vieira sent the ball home from the spot to reduce the deficit.
Al Shamsi restored Bani Yas' three-goal lead in the 72nd minute, when he converted Abunamous ground cross with a clever backheel effort.
