Al Faraa put on an impressive performance to defeat Unicon Real Estate by 42 runs in the Aseel Islamic Finance 26th Sharjah Ramadan Cup 2014 Twenty20 cricket tournament.
The tournament is organized by the Sharjah Cricket Council.
Choosing to bat first after winning the toss at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Al Faraa amassed 151 for eight in 20 overs. Adnan Butt was the top scorer with a fine 37-ball 34 consisting of two boundaries and a six while Tahir Mughal and Faisan Asif made significant contributions with quickfire knocks of 29 and 25 respectively. Shahzad Malik put on a 25 from as many balls while Baber Bashir added 12 not out from eight balls as Al Faraa put on a challenging total. For Unicon, Asad Ansari and Maaz Ansari claimed two wickets each.
Chasing a strong total, Unicon lost four wickets with just 35 runs with Sajjad Ahmed (12) and Naseeb Gul (13) failing to make big contributions after good starts.
With Unicon in a situation of bother, Zeeshan Akmal ignited some hopes with 19-ball 36 studded with five sixes while Abu Bakkar smashed 12-ball 22 including one boundary and two sixes. But with wickets tumbling at regular intervals, Unicon were shot out for 109 in 18.2 overs. Mujahid Amin was the successful bowler for Al Faraa pocketing three wickets in his four overs while Fayyaz Ahmed and Imran Maqsood took two wickets.
