Dr. Badria Al Dhahri, Director of Community Services, commented, “Organizing the world’s largest children football match for the children of Al-Ihsan Charity Society, under the patronage of the Secretary General of the Society, Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Nuaimi, against a UAE football team of the caliber of Al Wuhda, is a unique and unprecedented step at all levels, as no world organization other than the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City managed to assemble 110 children to play against a football team. There were other similar matches but they fell short of such a huge number of children, such as the Japanese National Team’s match against 80 children, and Real Madrid match against 109 children from China.
“This event comes in line with the objectives of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City aimed at supporting the local community organizations, and in particular charitable foundations which are concerned with the welfare of children, orphans and people with special needs,” added Al Dhahri.
She commended the sportsmanship and the excellent cooperation demonstrated by Al Wuhda Club, adding that this feeling of belonging, partnership and solidarity contributed to the success of the event. She also praised the excellent organization efforts of Takatuf; adding that the success of this event would not have been materialized without the collaborative efforts made to realize this humanitarian, social and noble objective.
To commemorate the event, during the half-time between Bani Yas and Al Wuhdah match, which took place of late at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi, 110 children from Al-Ihsan Charity Society played against Al Wuhda Team. The fans exhibited unrivaled support and enthusiasm for the Society’s children, who emerged victorious over Al Wuhda, thus manifesting superb form and cooperation that overwhelmed the hearts of children & orphans with joy & happiness. It also reflected the humanitarian & compassionate values, compassion, love and synergy among the UAE community members, as evidenced by Al Wuhda Team players heading towards the children to shake hands and warmly hug them.
Al Dhahri reiterated the Municipality Abu Dhabi City’s keenness on realizing the objectives of the event by demonstrating commitment towards the community issues and underlining the importance of supporting the social groups in need of support, noting that such values were among the Municipality’s core strategies and form an integral part of the Community Services Division’s objectives. She lauded the great support provided by Al Wuhdah Club and its co-operation with the work team, who highlighted the importance of supporting charitable and humanitarian foundations.
Winding up the grand soccer finale, the Municipality’s work team, which oversaw the event, presented certificates of appreciation to all children and posed for photos to memorize this discerning event, the first of its kind in the world.
