The UAE Gender Balance Council held its second annual meeting of 2019, chaired by Mona Al Marri, Vice-President of Council.
The meeting reviewed the Council's main successes since the beginning of the year, and discussed upcoming initiatives set to take place in cooperation with federal authorities to narrow the gender gap across various sectors.
During the meeting, Al Marri stated that the first half of the year saw several achievements that reflect the progress made in the field of gender balance in the UAE.
Al Marri highlighted the support and encouragement extended by the wise leadership, which enhances the competitiveness of the UAE and strengthens its position globally as a country that creates opportunities for women to excel.
She also noted the importance this strategy holds for the success of the UAE Centennial 2071 plan, as well as the global impact of gender balance, which is also one of the UAE's sustainable development goals.
The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority presented the results of the workshop on gender balance in the private sector, which was organised last May in cooperation with the National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals.
The workshop was the first of its kind and encouraged dialogue between the public and private sector to develop ideas, tools and mechanisms to promote the successful implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030, including gender balance in the workplace.
The workshop was attended by 80 government officials and senior business leaders from local and international companies.
Additionally, the Council also assessed the stages of implementation of the annual report on gender balance in the UAE, as mandated by the UAE Cabinet during the annual meetings of the UAE Government in November 2018.
The content and structure of the annual report were agreed upon with the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority, and the first edition of the report will be launched in the last quarter of this year.
