Visitors at the 47th edition of the Watch & Jewellery Middle East Show at Expo Centre Sharjah will have the chance to see a record-breaking $4.9 million ring with 7,777 diamonds, when the show opens today.
The ring, which is designed by Bhandari, founder of Lakshikaa Jewels, is a Guinness World Record holder with the most number of diamonds set in one ring.
Weighing 70.42gm and crafted in two-tone 18K white and rose gold, the ring was designed to mimic the shape of a closed lotus flower. It is made up of 27 petals studded with thousands of round brilliant-cut diamonds. It took a team of 12 artisans over 18 months and innumerable hours to create it. The inspiration for the ring comes from the Lotus Temple in Delhi. Lakshikaa Jewels is a manufacturer of wedding jewellery in Mumbai.
The Watch & Jewellery Middle East Show will kick off its five-day run today, and will bring together more than 500 local, regional and international exhibitors and brands, over an area of 30,000 square metres, making it one of the Middle East's largest shows in terms of occupied exhibition space.
Officials at Expo Centre Sharjah noted that all preparations are in place to host the autumn edition of the bi-annual event, which has become an international venue for unveiling the latest designs of watches, jewellery, diamonds and gemstones. The show opens its doors to the public on Tuesday and Wednesday from 12pm to 10pm. It will also be open on Thursday from 12pm to 11pm, Friday from 3pm to 11pm and Saturday from 12pm to 10pm. The exhibition will be exclusively open for Ladies on Wednesday from 12pm to 4pm. Admission is free for all.
Lucky shoppers can also expect a number of prizes on their purchases, starting from the mega raffle for a kilo of gold on the final day of the show to daily prizes on every purchase of Dh500.
An exclusive Designers' Pavilion will bring together a host of the most prominent jewellery designers to display the most stylish and exquisite jewellery creations from renowned designers. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and International Gemological Institute (IGI) will also hold seminars run by some of the top experts, who will furnish visitors with essential information on gemstone jewellery, diamonds, and pearls, in addition to how to read reports and ratings before buying jewellery.
