Italian treats with a Middle Eastern twist

Renowned Italian pastry chef Angelo Bisconti, al-ready famous for having created the chocolate version of the traditional southern Italian cake pasticciotto, presented the pomegranate-filled variant dedicated to Dubai at the end of the Gulfood 2021 exhibition. For the first time, the pasticciotto, which has its origins in the Apulian Region in the South of Italy, was freshly baked in the UAE at the end of the week at the most important event of food and beverage in the Middle East. The project was launched to introduce the excellence of traditional Italian food to the UAE. The company Melograni Martino has joined hands with the chef and supplied the organic pomegranate compote which was used to fill the pastry. The event took place on February 26 at the Top Chef Cooking Studio in Jumeirah, where Chef Angelo performed a cooking show to a small audience - fully compliant with Covid-19 regulations - preparing not only pasticciotto but also some other traditional delicacies from the Apulian Region and the Salento Peninsula such as zeppole and rustici.
