He had been hospitalised in the capital for the past three months.

According to Major Mohammed Khamees Al Juanibi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, the convict was isolated in the hospital since then.

Immediately after his escape, coordinated efforts were made by all police departments in Abu Dhabi, specifically the General Department for Security Affairs, and checkpoints were set up to apprehend the runaway prisoner.

Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, ordered honouring Brigadier Yousouf Abdul Karim, Director of the Correctional and Punitive Institutions Department at the Abu Dhabi Police, and a number of officers and personnel who took part in tracking down the prisoner.

Brigadier Yousouf called on the health institutions in the country to designate separate wards for the prison inmates, who are hospitalised. When special wards are set up for prisoners admitted to hospitals, it would be very easy to keep them under watch, he said.
