A new environment law was announced in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, aiming to curb environmental violations by imposing heavy fines on violators.
According to a series of tweets by Abu Dhabi Media Office, Khalifa bin Zayed has issued a new law enhancing the regulatory powers of Environment Authority - Abu Dhabi (EAD) to help conserve the environment and biodiversity in Abu Dhabi.
Under the new law, with Executive Council approval, the EAD is empowered to impose financial penalties up to Dh10 million, up from the previous maximum fine of Dh10,000.
The law gives EAD the right to impose a range of different penalties, such as putting establishments under financial, administrative and technical supervision or imposing temporary or permanent shutdowns.
