His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an administrative order prohibiting the possession of dangerous predators in Sharjah.
According to Article 1 of Resolution No. 15 of 2014, people are prohibited from possessing dangerous predators at homes or farms in Sharjah.
The provisions of the resolution exclude licensed public and private zoos; and scientific research centres and universities for scientific purposes or for entertainment purposes — provided they obtain a licence from the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah (EPPA).
According to the order, the Executive Council of the Emirate will issue a decision upon a request from the President of the EPPA on the regulation of the technical conditions to license the possession of dangerous predators by those exempted under the provisions of this resolution, and punishments to be imposed on violators.
The resolution specifies a fine of Dh100,000 for violations of the order with provisions for confiscation of the animals by the EPPA.
The authority will implement the provisions of this resolution in coordination with the competent authorities, including the Sharjah Municipality and the Sharjah Police.
The decision will come in force after one month of its issuance and will be published in the Official Gazette.
