The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with insurance company, Daman, have launched the Musafir programme, specifically targeted towards aiding Emiratis abroad in emergency situations. It is considered to be the first of its kind travel insurance programme in the region.

The insurance package provides UAE citizens with comprehensive health coverage up to Dh500,000 on a direct payment basis. The costs of treatment will be borne by the Musafir package, wam reported.

This is different from other packages, which requires the insured party to pay the costs of the treatment before being reimbursed by the company at a later date.

Musafir packages can be bought and activated up to 48 hours prior to travel date.

"More citizens are traveling abroad every year, which necessitates matters be taken more seriously when it comes to health issues and emergencies whilst outside the country," said Ambassador Ahmed Alham Al Thaheri, Assistant Undersecretary for Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The program is characterised by direct billing advantage, which also includes simple online registration that can be valid for an unlimited number of flights per year as long as a trip does not exceed 90 days.

The annual premium is Dh250 for parties under 18 years of age and Dh399 for adults.
A link will be included on the official Musafir site and on the Tawajudi app.
