The Dubai Central Laboratory has brought home National Energy Globe Award for the year 2011 which is established by Energy Globe a renowned international organization headquartered in Austria, announced Eng. Hawwa Abdulla Al Bastaki, Director, Dubai Central Laboratory.
The research under the title “Assessing recyclable construction waste” carried out by DCL won the international award.
“We are extremely happy that we won it after been selected from 1175 entries from near about 115 countries in the world” said Hawwa while explaining about the award.
Hawwa further said the study focused on how to make use of the remains produced out of recycling process of construction wastage. Construction waste is considered as most inconvenient problem these days regarding its negative impact on environment.
The study was conducted by a technical team with DCL after carrying out field visits to various collection and segregation units for construction waste.
She said samples were collected from the debris crusher units and DCL carried out laboratory tests for these segregated debris samples with high-tech equipments to ensure that it can be used for various constructions. The scientific tests led the conclusion that it can be used in concrete mixtures used under the foundation layer of buildings as well as in the underneath layer of road foundations, which will make a way out from the dilemma the construction debris creates to modern cities.
The new finding is believed to elevate the status of DCL upgraded as one of the main referral laboratories in the region. Also, it will boost up the efforts of Dubai Municipality like Green Buildings, to spread environment friendly construction culture and to enrich the concept of sustainable development with multiple dimensions.
For DM, Assistant Director Generals Mohammed Abdul Kareem Jalfar and Salem Mismar received the award.
