Ajman Municipality's Department of Public Health and Environment has shut down 36 outlets for flouting health rules.
Eng. Khalid Mueen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the department, said the erring outlets were penalised during an inspection campaign - so far this year - including 26,000 establishments.
"Up to 279 outlets were fined, while 2,256 were issued warning letters, and 36 were shut down."
More inspection campaigns are to be launched to ensure consumers' health and clamp down on violations, he added.
"Most of the violations were related to food and hygiene."
