A total of 194 Emiratis across the UAE have turned in their candidacy applications for the upcoming Federal National Council (FNC) elections on the first day of registration on Sunday, according to the National Election Committee (NEC).
Fifty-two FNC aspirants submitted their applications at Abu Dhabi centres, including those logged in stations at the Abu Dhabi Chamber; a hall at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain; and at the Zayed City Council Al Dhafra, the committee said on Twitter.
Some 21 applications were filed at the Dubai International Financial Centre, while 47 were received at the Consultative Council of Sharjah.
Seven applications were recorded from the Sheikh Humaid hall of Ajman Museum, and there were 13 at the Social Development Centre in Umm Al Quwain. The number of applications in Ras Al Khaimah, on the other hand, was 28, and they were submitted at the grand hall of the Cultural Centre.
In Fujairah, the Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry received 26 applications.
Registration of candidates shall run until August 22 and a preliminary list is expected to be available by August 25. Objections for the candidacy will be accepted from August 26 to 28.
On September 3, a final list of candidates will be announced.
Campaign period
The official campaign period for the FNC polls shall start on September 8 and the deadline for candidate withdrawal has been set on September 15. Main election day will take place on October 5 and preliminary results will be revealed on the same day.
Should there be any appeals, candidates will have until October 8 to register them.
"The final list of elected candidates will be announced on October 13, unless supplementary elections are held," the NEC announced in July.
