Man United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar made several saves to ensure it wasn’t a worse day for the Stadium of Light visitors.

Tottenham came from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1, and Everton won 2-0 at Birmingham for its first victory of the season.

Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart’s double took his tally to four goals in three matches at White Hart Lane.

Roger Johnson’s own-goal and Tim Cahill’s stoppage-time header enabled Everton to end Birmingham’s 13-month unbeaten home record.

Chelsea hosts Arsenal on Sunday.
