UAE will take on Bahrain in the final round of the group stage with both sides eyeing a spot in the last eight.
“Bahrain are still in with a chance to make it into the last eight despite their 2-3 defeat at the hands of the Iraqis. The game is crucial for both sides and we must win to keep our chances alive in a line-up in the knock-out stage,” Katenec said.
Katanec told newsmen that he was confident of his boys registering a victory. “I’m truly proud of my players and satisfied with their performance. I do respect them,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to Mohamed Mansi, assistant coach of the UAE national team, the Boys in White did well in their previous outings in the 20th Gulf Cup in Yemen and should improve their showing in their upcoming clash against Bahrain.
Al Mansi said UAE was drawn in a tough group and they have every respect for Bahrain in their clash in the final round of the group stage. He said they would make every move to score from half chances.
“Oman, for example, were the better side on the pitch, but our attacks were most dangerous. I’m confident that our players will live up to the challenge and make it into the knock-out stage,” Al Mansi said.
Team manager Ismail Rashid echoed the same opiniona and said their game against Bahrain would be a thriller.
“The two teams have no half solutions, either to win and advance forward or lose and bow out,” the team manager added.
Ismail said their player Waleed Abbas is back to form after injury and will start the game.
“The team is well tuned for the tough test,” he said.
Rashid reiterated that their main objective is to help their Yemeni brothers in ensuring the success of the championship. “Let’s make it clear that we came to Yemen to ensure the success of the championship. Our next target is the AFC Asian Cup in Doha and we will prepare for this from Oman,” he added.
